One page, five short lists. Everything worth doing before, during and after a massage — and, at the end, the things you can safely ignore.
It is laid out to print cleanly: use your browser’s print option, or save it as a PDF from the same dialog.
Where this applies
Nothing on this page is specific to us — it works at any massage business. If you are booking with us, we are Relax Body Massage Centre, opposite Citizen Gym at Deglour Naka in Nanded, open Every day, 9:30 AM - 11:00 PM. Every service lists its price and session time. Message us on WhatsApp to check what is free today.
If you have not decided which style you want yet, our guide to the massage styles compares all six, and the FAQ covers the practical questions.
We provide massage for relaxation and comfort and make no medical claims. If you have a medical condition or a recent injury, speak to a qualified medical professional before booking — and mention anything relevant at the start of the session, particularly for a dry cupping session, where cups are applied to the skin and can leave temporary marks.
Every section below prints in full, opened or not — use your browser’s print or save-as-PDF option.
The day before
Confirm the time, and decide which areas you want and how firm.
- Confirm the appointment, particularly if you booked several days ago.
- If you are travelling in from another taluka, check the time again and allow for the journey.
- Decide roughly what you want: which areas, and how firm. You can change your mind.
- Note anything the therapist should know - a tender area, a joint that does not move freely, a recent injury, a fragrance you would rather avoid.
Before you leave
Skip the heavy meal, drink some water, wear something easy to change out of.
- Avoid a heavy meal in the hour or so beforehand. Lying face down on a full stomach is less comfortable than you expect.
- Drink some water, but not so much that you need to interrupt the session.
- Oil-based styles use oil generously, so an evening slot often works better than one before a meeting.
- Leave a few minutes of slack. Walking in flustered wastes the first part of the session.
- Wear something easy to change out of. Oil is used in every session we offer, so nothing you mind getting oil on.
What to say at the start
What to tell the therapist, including anywhere you want left alone.
- Which areas you want most attention on.
- Anywhere you would rather was left alone. No explanation needed.
- How firm you want it - light, moderate or firm.
- Anything tender, any recent injury, any joint that does not move freely.
- Whether you would prefer oil or no oil, if the style allows a choice.
- Whether you would rather not make conversation. Entirely normal.
During the session
Say so if the pressure is wrong. You can stop at any point.
- Speak up about pressure. Too firm and too light are both worth saying.
- If you are holding your breath or tensing up, the pressure has gone past useful. Say so.
- Ask for more time on an area, or for the therapist to move on.
- You can end the session at any point, for any reason, without justifying it.
- You do not have to talk. Most people go quiet within a few minutes.
Afterwards
Sit up slowly, drink water, and go gently after firm work.
- Sit up gradually rather than springing off the table.
- Take a few minutes before heading back out.
- Drink some water.
- Move gently for the rest of the day after firm work such as a deep tissue session.
- After a deep tissue session, do not book heavy training for the same evening.
- Some tenderness in a worked area for a day or so is common after firm pressure.
- Anything that feels wrong rather than tender is worth raising with a qualified medical professional.
What you can skip
Hydration regimens, “detox” preparation and fasting are not worth your attention.
- Elaborate hydration protocols. Drink water because most of us are mildly short of it, not because a massage requires a regimen.
- “Detox” preparation. Not a claim we make, and not something to plan around.
- Fasting beforehand. Skip the heavy meal, not the meal.
- Worrying about whether you are “doing it right”. Lie there. Say something if the pressure is off.
